Playa Blanca

The Pearl of the South

In the last 20 years Playa Blanca has developed from a little fishing village with only 30 houses into one of the most modern beach resorts in the Canary Islands. The special climate in the south of Lanzarote, the amazing beaches of Papagayo next door, and the especially good infrastructure, are the reason why a lot of 5 star hotels, as well as generously designed urban areas have established themselves here. Added to this is the beautiful Marina Rubicón, which was inaugurated few years ago, and one of the longest beach promenades in Europe.

Because of the proximity of the neighbour island Fuerteventura, Playa Blanca is a perfect starting point for excursions to explore the long sandy beaches in the north of that island or a trip to the town of Corralejo.

Whilst developing Playa Blanca over the last few years, the planners have avoided the pitfalls of some of the other tourist regions, they have managed to blend in the old town with the new. There are nice walks, tree lined avenues, the Marina with all its facilities, a planned golf course, an abundance of restaurants and shops – all in harmony.

Playa Blanca is under the care of the Municipality of Yaiza, around which are some spectacular sights to visit. Go to the salt-pans of Janubio. El Golfo and Los Hervideros provide some breathtaking wild seas. There are excursions to the volcanoes or to La Geria, one of the wine growing areas. If you like walking, there are tracks that allow you to explore the real Lanzarote, walking from Femes to Playa Quemada or Yaiza to Femes through the nature reserve Los Ajaches, gives you a chance to discover the unspoilt, awe-inspiring other side of Lanzarote.

Absorb the beauty of this Island where a balance has been found between pleasure and relaxation, man and nature.
